Don’t buy tortoise eggs.

The spot where I write here the most is my bed. It’s these moments before sleep that I find most accommodating for releasing the thoughts trapped between my brain and my fingers. Right now the owner of the posada is drinking a beer with money I lent him. Currently he owes me 65 pesos. About $6 US, but a decent chunk of change here in Mexico. Also he has my key. If I want to get out, he has to let me out. I doubt I’ll get my money back, or my key for that matter. Not to worry however. I’ll survive, for sure.
I just got back from a four day mini-vacation to the beach here in Chiapas. Really quite beautiful, and very relaxing. I needed it. The water was warm, and it was 35ºC  all day, and 32ºC all night. Never was there a cloud in the sky. The beer was cheap as well, however, not everything was excellent. Other than breakfast, the only thing on the island was fish. that being the case, I had huevos rancheros three times a day. Also, there was a lot of dumping of trash on the beach. The most fucked up part of the whole trip, was watching a Mexican family steal eggs from a tortoise, as the tortoise was laying them. There was nothing I could do to stop them. I feel so ashamed to be human sometimes. We are capable of such terrible things. Even more than being human, I am so incredibly ashamed to be an American, with the recent news of Bush building a wall across the American-Mexican border.
Back to my vacation however. I hitched both ways. I absolutely love hitch hiking. It took 9 cars, one taxi, and one boat to get there, and one boat, 5 cars, a semi, and a collectivo to get back. Both ways we walked nearly the entire width of Tuxtla Gutierrez. Look it up, its no small town, and walking across it was certainly not fun. The total cost of transportation to and from the beach was 90 pesos. It would only have been 55, however at the edge of Tuxtla, the police were nice enough to hail me a collectivo, to save me the hassle of trying to get a free ride. Thanks guys. A quick 35 pesos down the drain.
In other recent news, I am done with classes now, as I can’t afford to take anymore. At $100USD/wk it adds up quite fast. My expenses add up to about $250-300/mo here in Mexico. Anybody who doesn’t want me to visit them anytime soon is certainly welcome to donate to “The Keep Zac Out of the USA Fund”. Even $1 helps! Inquire within. My plans for the next month are to spend some time in Guatemala, and then head back to DF. I’d like to go back to the beach for a few days before I hit the big city. That’s all for now. <3 Zac

When one is in town one amuses oneself. When one is in the country one amuses other people. It is excessively boring
